Initial thoughts

One day I found this free stock photo of two red foxes. I like it. These two red foxes have a potential story to tell. So I want to explore that story a little further. Rather than just two ordinary foxes meet each other in the wild, I try to make one of the foxes coming out of a portal.

The weather outside the portal is snowing, the scene inside the portal is a mystery woods. The “fox” from the other dimension is not a real fox. It is duplicating the creature it meets on first sight. In this case, a random curious red fox. The body of this mystery “fox” assembles while it comes out of the portal into snow. All shattered parts are flying quickly and quietly.

Digital sketch

I thought about the frame of this portal. It could be sci-fiction style such as neon light, or maybe semi-transparent. But I prefer the middle earth decoration style better. The design is simplified since the frame is not the focal point.

Summary

Well, I believe the random curious red fox would be shocked by what it sees. However I also believe that they would make a great pair of friends because the mystery “fox” comes without any harm. The spirit behinds the fox form is curious too.

I am not sure how human would react if they see themselves coming out of a portal with shattered pieces. 🤣

My paintings are an outlet to express the imagination I have inside my head that I can not put into words. After trying many mediums, I always find myself coming back to paint and brushes. In my current artistic practice, I use oil paint and mainly create portraits of mythical creatures and animals transfixed in the shifting colours of seascapes and landscapes. There is a natural spirit and magic to these creatures and their energy draws me in. Choosing to paint these creatures as real living wildlife rather than abstractions, I use bold and vivid colours to express the imaginary intertwined with reality, finding magic between the seams. Using a saturated colour palette, I create bold and striking imagery, contrasted between foreground and background, subject and landscape, and light and darkness. Weaving their bodies and the surface of the landscape into each other through organic forms and flowing brush strokes, I find beauty, strength and innocence in these creatures that reflect my inner world.
