Fantasy oil painting “Cyber jellyfish”

Initial thought

I found out a city street night scene photo while exploring online reference photo website (picture shown as below). I like the color combination and the mood. However I am not that interested in cityscape or buildings. They have way too many straight lines. So I am looking for some other subjects that would fit with this future cyber feeling neon color palette. And guess what I pick up?

Yes, jellyfish it is. 😀

A little knowledge about jellyfish

Here I only talk about one special species, Turritopsis nutricula. They are also called “immortal jellyfish”. This type of jellyfish lives forever via rejuvenate every single cell of its body. Same DNA, nothing changed but whole set of younger cells. And they can repeat this cycle again and again unless they are eaten by predators. Yes, being immortal doesn’t mean they are bullet proof.

Turritopsis nutricula is small.

Turritopsis nutricula’s life cycle.

Final painting idea

So, consider immortal jellyfish’s special power, it is easy to think they belong to some long lost alien species that once ruled this planet. They fit the science fiction background with a neon color cyber feeling palette. I put a circle of semitransparent touch screens around one jellyfish. Apparently, the little jellyfish with its super brain would control all these screens simultaneously. As to the screen, I thought about molecular formula or binary translation. But eventually I decide to use matrix with dots, like GO game. The orange red dot represents error message. And the glowing bluish teal dot represents one jellyfish just like the major one in the painting. Together they form a powerful colony. o( ̄▽ ̄)d

PS: Do people want immortal or invincible?
