Initial thoughts
It starts with movie “Godzilla: King of the monsters”. I was amazed when the submarine dived down deep and discovered ancient underwater ruin architecture. The scene is extraordinary and beautiful.

It is ancient architecture underwater with modern submarine. It is my favorite color palette, blue vs orange. Despite the movie’s story line and some acting issue, I love this part, especially when Dr. Serizawa sacrificed himself for Godzilla.
So, I think it is time for painting some underwater ruins
Let’s imagine the ancient structures covered in colorful corals, surrounded by schools of vibrant fish. The play of light filtering through the water, creating mesmerizing patterns on the crumbling walls.
It’s a scene full of mystery and beauty, waiting to be captured on canvas. The challenge lies in recreating the intricate details of the ruins and the delicate balance of marine life.
But with each brushstroke, the underwater world comes alive, telling a story of a forgotten civilization beneath the waves.
Digital sketch
The main theme is straightforward. Light comes through two stone sculptures and all blue shades. Here the diver is the key. The diver not only gives the size reference but also wears modern equipment. To compensate the blue colors, I put a group of orange jellyfish.

Summary
In oil painting, the first impression for painting light rays is using semi-transparent white color. However, it will reduce the color saturation. First, determine the shape and range of light rays. Then, it is better to go over the whitened area with a similar value color. Thus, the light rays feel more on the subject itself rather than suspend on top of canvas.
I am so glad that I actually finished this one. I hope you enjoy it too. ❤
