Background

This piece is similar to “Moonlight Sailing.” The idea for a seahorses carriage fantasy painting came to me a long time ago, but I couldn’t manage to put it onto canvas. I even have a draft painting on this subject on a 24″ by 36″ canvas in my basement. However, I finally finished it this year.

It’s literal. A seahorse is still a “horse”. If a horse can pull a carriage, a seahorse should be able to as well. Since I love kelp forests, I chose that environment for the seahorses carriage. Kelp forests are vibrant ecosystems teeming with life and color, providing the perfect backdrop for the graceful seahorses to travel through.

Who is in the carriage? I don’t know. It is up to you. 🤣

Digital concept

I have an older digital sketch for the 24″ by 36″ size. It included too many seahorses, and the carriage was too large. I was also not quite satisfied with the carriage design, which I believe is one reason I couldn’t complete the painting.

This year, I changed it to a smaller canvas size of 16″ by 20″. I reduced the number of seahorses and completely changed the carriage.

Summary

I am relieved that I was able to save this idea and turn it into an actual painting. Now I can cross it off my notebook and move on to other ideas.

I hope you enjoy this one.

By the way, I never knew that seahorse has fins………till now. 🤣

Thank you.
