Initial thought
I had been considering painting a teleportation scene for some time but had not yet decided on the main subject. Then, earlier this year, news about the California wildfires was everywhere. It’s not just California; here in Minnesota, we are also affected by wildfires in Canada every year. There are days when air quality alerts are issued due to smoke drifting from the north. The smell is unpleasant in every way. However, at least we don’t have to face the wildfires directly.
Then the idea of fleeing the wildfire site comes to my mind.
The teleportation portal suits this scene perfectly. A train—perhaps a rescue or evacuation train—is rushing through the portal, which connects the active fire site to a cool, peaceful town. The fiery sparks transform into gentle snowflakes, and the inferno’s red heat is replaced by a calming blue chill.
Digital concept
The color theme is straightforward: warm fire and cool snow. The shape of the teleportation portal took me some time because it can’t be a perfect circle; it has to be flat where the circle meets the ground.
Summary
I had fun while painting this piece since I can play with two sets of color. I wish one day we can have this type of technology in daily life. It would be cool. 😀
