Initial thoughts

The idea for “The lost throne” started with the big tree. It suited for a throne in my mind. But who would put a throne in the woods? Then I thought about Maya pyramid. People once believed that Maya built their pyramid inside the forest. But in fact, the forest reclaimed the area after Maya abandoned their buildings.

So, the throne be abandoned by its owner and covered by the trees over time. It is standing there silently, only couple of stairs left. But I feel lifeless if there is only a throne and trees. After several attempts, I put in a little kitten at the bottom of the stairs. The little kitten shows a living creature that walks by this ancient throne.

The kitten will leave eventually and the throne stays by itself for as long as time allows.

Digital sketch

In digital sketch, I thought the big tree was directly behind the lost throne. But in the actual painting, I want to push the big tree further away from the throne so the big tree can be considered as background. The small blue dot at the bottom right corner is the contrast color I choose for the shadow area. The whole color theme is warm, brownish red, rusty orange or deep yellow. Thus I pick up a muted blue to balance the painting.

Summary

This painting was finished before June. But I only got chance to take a photo and post it until now. This summer felt like a lifetime for me due to all kinds of activies. I am glad that I can finally get back to my own stuff. 😂
